We have these things we do ... we shoot the messenger, or we turn a deaf ear. That is what happened yesterday at the UN. George Clooney, co-founder of Not On Our Watch, went to the UN as a Messenger for Peace. Unfortunately, he was refused his alotted time at the last minute. Some say it was France and Russia who did not want to learn about Darfur from an actor! Clooney refused to be silenced and spoke to journalists about his recent trip and the cruel realities in Darfur and Chad. "The job of messenger comes with the responsibility to deal with facts, not to tell people what they want to hear, but to tell them the truth, unfiltered," he stated.
You hope that somehow... if you just shine a really bright light on these things it's harder to get away with it. The people of Darfur, he said, were putting their faith in the blue-helmeted UN peacekeepers and it was up to the world not to let them down.
Walk on George!
